Qualification Requirements to Become a Chartered Accountant
You can start your journey to become a chartered accountant in two ways after your 12th and after getting a graduation or post-graduation degree in accounting from a recognized university. You can skip a few levels if you register after completing your graduation or post-graduation degree.
There are two routes to become a CA:
- Foundation course route after 12th
- Direct Entry route after graduation or post-graduation
Foundation Course Route After 12th
After clearing your 12th exam you need to clear the list of exams given below to become a chartered accountant.
- CA Foundation (4 months of the study period)CA Foundation Result is announced after 2 months of exam
- CA Intermediate (8 months of the study period)CA Intermediate Result is announced after 2 ½ months of exam. Complete ITT and OT during the result waiting period and before your articleship.
- Article ship training for 3 years. A student can appear in CA Final while completing the last six months of Articleship
- Clear the CA Final Exam
- Register yourself as a member of the ICAI to be designated as “Chartered Accountant”
According to the above details and figures, if you complete all the steps as mentioned in the first attempt the total CA course duration after 12th can be 4 ½ years.
Direct Entry Route After Graduation or Post-Graduation
After securing 55% aggregate in your commerce graduation or post-graduation. And 60% if you are not a commerce graduate/post-graduate. You can skip the CA Foundation level and directly apply for CA Intermediate level.
Provisional Registration for the Final Year Students –
Students who are in the final year of graduation are eligible to register for the CA Intermediate course on a provisional basis after providing the proof of clearing your graduation with the required percentage marks.
Register yourself for 3 years of articleship training and Before appearing in CA Intermediate examination after graduation/post-graduation you must complete the nine months of your training.
After clearing your CA Intermediate level you can register for your CA Final course.
As per the details given in the above paragraph, you can complete your CA course duration approximately three years after graduation or post-graduation.
Duration of course after clearing the CA Intermediate Examination
After clearing both the groups of CA Intermediate exam the last and final step is for CA Final. Students can appear in CA Final exam while completing their last six months of articleship training.
It is mandatory to clear both the groups of CA Final with three years of articleship training before registering yourself as a member of ICAI.
